Due to HAACP, small, quality minded retailers and restaurants who have depended on direct relationships with local fishermen for their supply of fresh seafood are now excluded from buying these products directly "off the dock" like we've done forever. Now, only HAACP certified wholesalers are legally allowed to purchase this product.
Smaller operations in coastal communities, known for generations to have the finest seafood at unbeatable prices, were suddenly forced to buy from a middle man. The result is lower quality and higher prices – Fish Markets that are within spitting distance of a fish pier now buy fish after it's been sold, loaded onto a truck, shipped to the nearest city, sold again, and trucked back.
In order to maintain our practice of legally buying as many fresh, local products as possible, direct from their producers, Mac's Seafood developed it's own HAACP certified Wholesale facility and launched the Wellfleet Harbor Seafood Co, Inc. Originally intended to serve as the main wholesaler for our own retail stores and restaurants only, our list of accounts quickly grew to other fine establishments in the communities where we operate.
We now have wholesale accounts throughout the country, where we ship overnight air via Periship® who helps us track and anticipate shipping problems before they arise.
